"Bretton Woods II" - Monetary System or Excuse

May 24, 2005

From: http://www.prudentbear.com/internationalperspective.asp

We don't really have a problem of excessive 'US-centric' growth, if the 'Bretton Woods II' advocates are to be believed. You haven't heard of 'Bretton Woods II'? It is the latest hypothesis used
to rationalise today's perverse global financial architecture, the main proponents being three leading economists: David Folkerts-Landau, Peter Garber, and Michael Dooley, who have all written extensively
on the subject. Dooley forcefully advanced the thesis again at a PIMCO Secular Forum held a few weeks ago.

The Sapiens site is now ready. Public recruiting is due to begin with a series of 5 consecutive adverts in The NZ Listener starting on the 18th June.

The first Active Campaign website, sapienspromise.com, is currently under construction. It will be devoted to assisting the struggle to peacefully and justly heal the ulcer caused by the Zionist attempt to eject the Palestinians from their homeland.

It is odd that the injustice faced by the Palestinians, which is far more destructive to international relations than ever Apartheid was in South Africa, has to date been able to mobilise far less public indignation and support. We will try and do our bit. Its settlementl will allow the World's leaders more time to concentrate their attention on the more pressing and general threats of poverty and climate change.

And we will not defeat poverty so long as trade and investment in any major part of the world are inhibited by fear of violence or instability." The point was that a broader global security strategy needed to go hand in hand with a poverty reduction strategy. To that end, the UN set about drawing up its Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Adopted by all member countries in 2000, the MDGs aim to achieve everything from eradicating extreme poverty to ensuring universal primary education and basic health care access, all by the year 2015.

Anji and Narasa Reddy: 'The debt became too much for them'
Trade reforms backed and funded by the British Government have caused an agricultural crisis in India which has sparked an epidemic of suicide among impoverished farmers, a leading charity claims today.
More than 4,000 farmers have killed themselves in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh since a programme of free-market measures was implemented by a "hardline liberalising regime" with the help of a £1.65m grant from the Department for International Development (DfID).

In “When Presidents Lie,” starting with FDR’s failure to inform the American public of the exact terms of the agreement that he had made in their name at Yalta, Eric Alterman presents a carefully researched expose of apparently systematic breaches of trust between the US Executive and the American people and their elected representatives in the legislature. Researching a government’s deliberate untruths is by its nature, no easy task. Pages 1 to 314 are easily read and make a fascinating narrative. The remaining 100 plus pages contain detailed footnotes and the sources. It is a well-researched history that will be hard to refute.
