Determined
The newsletter of the Sapiens Movement.
We have a name for this Newsletter – creatively contributed by Tony Fleming from New York. To quote Tony “This term is used in most international treaties and, in my opinion, reflects
the commitment of world federalists and hopes of everyone.”
The last fortnight has been spent mainly in planning – writing a 16-page plan on the same model as one would write a business plan when establishing a new business. Such a plan, which can be adjusted as time passes, allows a benchmark against which to judge progress (or lack thereof) and also provides a key basis on which to raise funds when that stage is reached. I attach the much briefer “Executive Summary” which is the standard introduction to such planning documents. As will become clear to you on reading it, as our view of our “product” becomes more refined, large areas of our Website are going to require modification. (This third time in 6 months, is par for the course on green field start-ups.)
Newsletter No 4. EarthTrek
Every day it becomes more evident that the global market requires a global citizenship. Kofi Annan.
An Australian trip on mixed business and pleasure has resulted in a week’s delay in this newsletter – which is still lacking a permanent title. What are opinions on this one? It is taken from a suggestion made in a different context by a new member from Canada, Jim Stark, of whom more later.
The Forge – Newsletter No 3.
“I am a citizen, not of Athens, or Greece, but of the World” Socrates.
The last few days have been pretty hectic. I now feel that I have got a better grip on the status of the world-wide movement for DWG – Democratic World Government -and am in the process of drafting a plan of action based on my understanding of the situation. I have made contact with several of the international players and will be asking for both your and their inputs to the draft. A summary of the situation as I see it, is inserted below. You will see that little progress has been made since Socrates’ day – but that now the need is more urgent (and the opportunity for effective action far greater) than it ever has been in the last 2500 years.
“The Journey”
Truman, Harry 1884-1972 “It will be just as easy for nations to get along in a republic of the world as it is for you to get along in the republic of the United States. Now when Kansas and Colorado have a quarrel over the water in the Arkansas river they don't call out the national guard in each state and go to war over it. They bring suit in the Supreme Court of the United States and abide by the decision. There isn't a reason in the world why we can't do that internationally.”
I need a name for this newsletter. I thought of “The Boulder.” Either something horribly difficult to push up hill or else just the first one to be levered into movement and then it crashes down the mountain side collecting an avalanche of other boulders on the way. Or, what about “The Chorister” with the whole World singing in sweet harmony? All ideas will be gratefully received.
The World.
We do live in increasingly interesting times. You will probably have read the brief article on the Sapiens site which deals with the possibility of an Israeli assault on Iran during this month and next. Should my fears prove justified, the event has within it the potential to permanently alter all our lives. I have been watching developments with some dread.
