What lies ahead? Synopsis There are projections that the world population is set to increase by up to 50% in the next 50 years. As our numbers multiply, our uncontrolled abuse of the environment promises a future of wars, famine and pandemics. Humanity is becoming dependant for survival on increasingly complex global economic systems. Without a matching political globalisation, that global economic system will be exposed to possibly fatal interruptions. The current world order is defined by the military and economic weapons of the strongest. The UN, constitutionally crippled at birth, is unable to do much more than provide an illusion of international respectability while nuclear-armed politicians and protesting terrorists face off against each other to imperil all our futures. Welcome to Sapiens, your opportunity to do something about it.
Full TextWhat lies ahead? There are projections that our global population is due to increase by up to 50% over the next fifty years. We know too that the climate pattern is changing at an alarming and possibly unprecedented speed and that the majority of the human habitat is being unsustainably mined rather than sustainably farmed. The natural resources that we have inherited, be they oil and mineral reserves, or the wealth of flora and fauna with which our world was once endowed, are not going to be passed on intact from our generation to our children and their children. If nothing else, these trends, if allowed to continue unchecked, are going to have adverse effects on humanity's ability to feed itself. Famine and pandemics lie ahead. Welcome to the Sapiens movement: your opportunity to do something about the current mess we are making of our childrens' world.
